Penguins vs. Caps Hockey
December 11, 2001 -- Final score: Tie -- Penguins 2, Caps 2. Believe or not,
nearly 90 Carnegie Mellon alumni, family, and friends attended the game at the MCI Center in

Happy Hour at Gordon Biersch
December 11, 2001 -- More than 50 Carnegie Mellon University alumni, family, and friends attended
our last happy hour of the year held at Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in downtown
D.C.
Happy Hour at Poli-Tiki
August 22, 2001 -- More than 20 Carnegie Mellon graduates joined another 50+ alumni from
other Pennsylvania universities for a happy
hour at Poli-Tiki, a Polynesian-themed bar on Capitol Hill. Thanks to Brian
Dean (H&SS1990) and Lori Weiss (CIT1995) for organizing this fun event.
Lunch with Professor Sandra Slaughter
August 6, 2001 -- Over a dozen alumni gathered at Cafe Paradiso in D.C.'s
Cleveland Park area for an informal lunch with Dr. Sandra Slaughter, an
Assistant Professor of Information Systems at GSIA. She hosted an interesting
discussion of recent/future trends in corporate systems strategy, spending, and
hiring plans. The luncheon was coordinated by Clinton Gatewood from the Office
of Alumni Relations.
Alumni Social with ECE Professor Bruce Krogh
June 25, 2001 -- An alumni social was held with Electrical and
Computer Engineering Professor Bruce

Happy Hour at Mackey's Pub
March 15, 2001 -- Though Carnegie Mellon's heritage is rooted in Scotland,
nearly 30 alumni celebrated St. Patrick's Day a little early at Mackey's Pub
on L Street, NW in Washington, D.C. Thanks to Michelle Sobers (MCS1998) for setting up the happy hour!
Hexagon Revue
March 11, 2001
-- Nearly 20 Carnegie Mellon alumni and guests spent an afternoon at Duke Ellington School
of Arts in Georgetown enjoying "Washington's only original, political, satirical, musical comedy
revue", Hexagon. Each year a corps of talented area volunteers come together to
write, produce and perform an original show. Thanks to Lois Findlay (GSIA1991) for
organizing this alumni event. We hope to see you next year!
Entrepreneurship Seminar
February 28, 2001 -- About 20 alumni attended an evening seminar on
"Entrepreneurship in the New and Uncertain E-conomy" held in
Arlington, Va. The audience learned some great lessons from the three
panelists:

2000 -- Dozens of alumni socialized at the Brickskeller Saloon in Washington,
D.C. and sampled from the hundreds of beers available. Now, what was the name of
that beer from that country south of the equator on the other side of the

DC Heinz Happy Hour
November 14, 2000 -- D.C. area alumni of the Heinz school gathered at Politiki
and the Penn Avenue Pourhouse on Capitol Hill for an enjoyable happy hour.

A big thanks to the volunteers who represented
Carnegie Mellon at various college fairs held throughout the metropolitan area in September

September 21, 2000 -- About a dozen or so alumni ventured out to the Big Hunt Club in Washington,
D.C. for a fun happy hour.

August 10, 2000 - A happy hour was held at the Rock Bottom Brewery
in Arlington, Va., one of our regular locations.
Heinz Alumni Wine Tasting Party
August 5, 2000 - The Heinz DC Alumni committee held a wine tasting party to
welcome Professor Jim Peters to the Washington, D.C. Peters left his position at
the Heinz School to join the University of Maryland in the fall.

July 20, 2000 -- Several alumni gathered at Rock Bottom Brewery in Arlington,
Va. to plan upcoming alumni events. Join the planning team today!
Summer Kick-Off Happy Hour
June 8, 2000 -- To kick off the summer, we held a happy hour at the Sign of the Whale
in downtown D.C. Thanks to Michelle Sobers (MCS1998) for setting up this event.
Faculty Seminar
June 1, 2000 -- Professor Donald Marinelli, co-director of the Entertainment Technology
Center and an Associate Professor of Drama and Arts Management, spoke to
40 alumni at a recent faculty seminar held in Arlington, Va.
Hockey Night
March 30, 2000 -- A group of alumni went to see the Washington Capitals hockey team
play the Pittsburgh Penguins at the MCI Center.
College Fair Nights
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the college fairs at Essex
County, Cantonsville, Anne Arundel County, and Charles County in March
and April 2000.
Planning Meetings
Several good ideas were discussed at the planning meeting held on
January 11 and March 2, 2000. We are still seeking volunteers to help.

Sunday, March 14, 1999 -- Nearly 30 alumni and friends watched the

September thru November 1998 -- A dozen or so alumni volunteered to
talk to prospective students at various college fairs for high school students
in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Thanks to Tim Babilon (H&SS1988),

Legg Mason Tennis Tournament
July 21, 1998 -- A handful of alumni watched some tennis before
a storm rained out the day's events. Before the rain, we were able to enjoy
a reception sponsored by Princeton Review. There's always next year.

March 15, 1998 -- About 20 alumni,
family, and friends mingled with 50 cast and crew after a hilarious time. Thanks

Jared Cohon, Carnegie Mellon President, visits Washington,
D.C.
September 11, 1997 -- Nearly 200 alumni heard Dr. Cohon speak
about his background, ideas, and plans for Carnegie Mellon as the newest president.
A question and answer sessions followed a reception held at the Willard
Hotel in Washington, D.C.

July 15, 1997 -- A handful of alumni watched Michael Chang battle his way to victory in the Legg Mason Tennis

May 20, 1997 -- About 30 alumni and guests played pool, mixed and mingled,

Carnegie Mellon's Philharmonic Orchestra at the Kennedy
Center
April 1, 1995 -- Alumni, family, and friends enjoyed the sounds of Carnegie
Mellon's own
philharmonic orchestra at the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall. The event was
directed by Juan Pablo Izquierdo and featured faculty guest artists Julius Baker
on the flute and Andres Cardenes on the violin.

executive director and senior lecturer at Carnegie Mellon's Center for the Advancement of
Applied Ethics. The seminar was held at American University and was organized by
Stanley Skalka (CIT1960).
