Tour
of the National World War II Memorial and Art Studio in D.C.
November 12, 2005 --
On a bright, sunny Saturday, more than 60 alumni and guests attended
a private tour with Raymond Kaskey (CFA 1967) who was the sculptor
for the National World War II Memorial on the National Mall. Ray's
designs included the Memorial's eagles, the ribbons supporting the
laurel wreaths, and the bas-relief sculptures. Afterwards, more than
30 people went to visit Ray's
art studios in Brentwood, Maryland. Ray gave a slide
presentation on his work and was joined by another Carnegie Mellon
alum, Larry Welker (CFA 1980), who is co-owner of the foundry, Laran
Bronze, that crafted many of the sculptures.

The group greatly appreciated the hospitality of Ray
and Sherry Kaskey (MM 1967) for hosting a wonderful day.
Susanne Slavick, head of the School of Art in the
College of Fine Arts, presented Ray with a plaque that recognizes him for living
the spirit of what the University calls the Da Vinci effect of combining art,
sciences, engineering, and business.

(CFA 1967) who coordinates many of our cultural events as well as the fine
arts networking dinners. We also appreciate the help from Terry Rosenberger
from the Office of Alumni Relations and local alumni volunteers including Dave

Peter Rapp (CIT 1973, 1976, Tepper 1976), and Tim Liu (H&SS
1985).
Tepper First Friday Happy Hour in McLean, Va.
Friday, November 4 -- More than a dozen Tepper alumni networked
and socialized at the new Gordon Biersch in Tysons Corner Mall.

Networking Dinner in D.C.
Thursday, October 20 -- About a half-dozen alumni gathered
together for dinner and enjoyed discussing a variety of topics and sharing

Tepper First Friday Happy Hour in Arlington, Va.
Friday, October 7 -- More than a dozen Tepper alumni gathered
for drinks and networking at Carpool in Arlington, Va.
1980's Decade Dinner in Downtown, D.C.
Thursday, September 29 -- About 10 alumni who graduated during
the 1980's enjoyed an evening of conversation, story-telling, and
delicious food at Otello Restaurant in downtown, D.C. Thanks to Tim
Liu (H&SS 1985) for organizing this successful dinner.

Baseball and Faculty Seminar with Professor Michael Trick
Wednesday, September 22 -- Nearly 50 alumni and guests enjoyed
an exciting evening of baseball preceded by a faculty seminar on the
scheduling of Major League Baseball. Tepper Professor Michael Trick
discussed the optimization challenges, constraints, and process for
developing the 162 game schedule for 30 teams. The group saw Barry
Bonds hit a home run as the San Francisco Giants defeated the
Washington Nationals. Thanks to John Sengenberger, Tepper Director
of Alumni Relations, and Tim Liu (H&SS 1985) for organizing the
event.

Tasting with University of Pittsburgh at Best Cellars in Arlington,
Va.
Wednesday, September 14 -- More than 20 alumni from Carnegie
Mellon joined another couple dozen alumni from the University of
Pittsburgh in the second joint wine tasting event. The group sampled
a variety of wines and took advantage of a 10% discount during the
event. Thanks to Julie Wilson (H&SS 1999) and Mina Koh (H&SS 1999)
for organizing the wonderful event.
Tepper Happy Hour in Alexandria, Va.
Friday, September 2 -- Tepper alumni gathered at Ireland's Own
in Alexandria, Va. See you at the next monthly happy hour on the
first Friday of October.

Thursday, August 25 -- A small group of alumni interested in the
fine arts enjoyed socializing and a delicious Tex Mex dinner at
Lauriol Plaza in downtown D.C. near Adams Morgan. Thanks to Joanne

Wednesday, August 17 -- About 20 alumni enjoyed socializing at
R.F.D. in the Chinatown area of downtown D.C. Thanks to Matt Streyle

Heinz Recent Alumni Welcome and Intern Farewell in downtown D.C.
Tuesday, August 16 -- More than 20 alumni from Heinz and other
colleges welcomed the new alumni and wished the best for the
departing interns at the 1331 Lounge at the J.W. Marriott hotel.

Evening of Boston Pops at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va.
Thursday, August 11 -- About 20 alumni enjoyed a nice summer
night listening to the Boston Pops, conducted by Keith Lockhart, a

Tepper Happy Hour in Bethesda, Md.
Friday, August 5 -- Caddies on Cordell in Bethesda, Md. was the
scene of the monthly Tepper Happy Hour.
Recent Alumni Dinner at Meiwah Restaurant in downtown D.C.
Wednesday, July 27 -- A rainstorm didn't stop 45 recent alumni
and interns from enjoying a delicious dinner in the upper level of
Meiwah Restaurant. Thanks to

Thursday, July 21 -- A representative from almost every college

Wednesday, July 20 -- About a dozen alumni and friends came to
support the efforts of alumn Trish Nowoslawski (Tepper 2003) who was
raising money for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Wednesday, July 13 -- Alumni had a terrific time socializing and

Tuesday, June 28 -- Nearly 230 attended the game won by the

River Musical and Dinner with Star and Alum Michael McElroy in D.C.
Sunday, May 22 -- Two dozen alumni and guests enjoyed a
spectacular performance by alum and Tony Award nominee Michael
McElroy (CFA 1990) in the production: Big River: The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn at Ford's Theatre. After the performance, about a
dozen enjoyed dinner with Michael at M&S Grill in downtown, DC.

of the National Museum of the American Indian in D.C.
Sunday, February 20 -- More than 60 alumni and guests toured the
new National Museum of the American Indian which has one of the
largest and most extensive collection of Native American art and
artifacts in the world with approximately 800,000 items. About 30
gathered for a pre-tour lunch at Gordon Biersch. Thanks to Tim Liu (H&SS 1985) for organizing the
event.

Skating at the National Sculpture Garden on the Mall in D.C.
